S7 Edge: Text field does not support GIF insertion

When I press the GIF option in Gboard in the stock Messaging app on my Galaxy S7 Edge, I get this error message: This text field does not support GIF insertion from the keyboard. How can I solve this?

I think it is a size issue, but have found a solution. Download the Giphy edge panel from the Galaxy app store, you can then download a gif from it, and then insert it into the message like you would a photo

    an alternate is to download the app textra which enables gif messages from the gboard.

        If you hate the ads with Textra, you can also use SMS thru the Facebook Messenger app. That will allow the GIFS

            You can’t insert GIF’s with sms messaging through Google. They won’t allow it and haven’t fixed the problem for some reason. It’s irritating.

              I was able to do this with my google Pixel no problem, but am not able to do it with my LG G6, so I don’t think it’s a google thing.

                I think you need atleast Android 7.1 that’s why its working with Pixel and not with LG G6
