After installing the Atahualpa, the first thing I usually do is to configure the layout width and change the number of columns.
By default, the site layout is configured as fluid type, which means the site appearance will adjust to fit the browser size. See examples below.
When the web browser is in full size, the site adjusts to fill the entire screen.
When the web browser is reduced into smaller size, the site adjusts to fill the smaller window making it really hard to read. To me this is an undesirable setting. So let’s fix it.
i. Fixing The Width of Site Layout
Follow the instructions to fix the site width to 980px;
1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard and go to Appearance > Atahualpa Theme Options.
2. In the Atahualpa Theme Options menu, click the Style & configure LAYOUT.
3. Instead of percentage number, enter 980px to fix the width. Here, you can enter a number bigger than 980 or even smaller. But just remember there are still lots of computers using the 1024 x 768, so anything bigger than 1024 might require the use of horizontal bar.
4. Click the Save changes button at the bottom.
ii. Configuring to Display Only Right Sidebar
The Atahualpa default layout comes with one left and right sidebars.
Actually, Atahualpa allows you to configure maximum of 4 sidebars. There are left sidebar, left inner sidebar, right sidebar and right inner sidebar. Each has the option to configure its display, width and style in the Style & configure SIDEBARS configuration page.
Normally, I will just have 1 right sidebar on my site.
1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard and go to Appearance > Atahualpa Theme Options. Click the Style & configure SIDEBARS option.
2. In the LEFT sidebar:Display on box, “Untick” all the options to take out the left sidebar.
3. Configure the right sidebar size to 320.
4. Click the Save changes button at the bottom.
Now, you have done both settings, browse your site to confirm these changes.
