Question:
How to calibrate the Proximity Sensor on my Xiaomi phone?
Answer:
If you suspect the proximity sensor on your Xiaomi phone is acting weird or wonky, you can try to calibrate it.
Here’s how:
- On your phone’s dialer, enter * # * # 64663 # * # *
- On the Hardware tests menu, select Proximity sensor.
- Tap the Calibrate button.
- When you see Calibration passed, you can tap the Home button to exit the hardware test.

Hello, great work! I have this orange screen notification, which doesn’t stop, even if I have my phone outside of my pocket. I’m trying to press “calibration” in the Proximity sensor option, but I cannot press the button, nor the Black Card button. I have a tempered glass which came off a bit on the top of the screen. Any thoughts?

My model is Xiaomi Redmi 3 Pro, and the MIUI is Global 8.1.3.0, Android 6.0.1.

Sorry George, I don’t own a Redmi 3 to test things out for you. There are lengthy discussions in the en.miui.com forum regarding the proximity issue of Redmi 3. It seems like a unsolved bug. Kindly refer to the following threads.

sir i have settings in on a proximity index and pass a hardware test but i make a call when display light is off. On a display light twice a press a power button. Display light on when a call cut why?
Ethan says
Sorry, I don’t quite get what you’re trying to tell me. Anyway, this is how proximity sensor should work.
When you’re calling or on call, your phone display will turn off automatically when it’s put near your face & ear. This is to avoid you touching any button especially the disconnect button accidentally. Once the call is finished, your phone display should be turned on automatically.

Hello sir. I have 3s prime MIUI 8 and proximity sensor is not working properly. When I make call the display light does not turn off. It tunrs off after some time and to end the call I press power button twice then display light get on and I can end call. Please can you suggest some solution for this problem
Ethan says
Make sure you’ve the Proximity sensor option turned on by following the steps below:
1. Open the Settings app.
2. Tap System apps > Phone > Incoming call settings.
3. Turn on Proximity sensor.
With the proximity sensor, your phone screen will turn off during a call when it detects your phone is near your ear. The screen will turn on if the phone is moved away from your ear.
If your phone’s proximity sensor isn’t working properly even after doing the calibration (steps above), you should send it back to the nearest Xiaomi center.

Have you tried the steps above to calibrate the Proximity Sensor?
If you still have the original screen protector that comes with the phone, try remove it.
Refer to this thread in MIUI forum for some suggestions.

I CANT TOUCH ON THE CALIBRATE BUTTON WHY ITS SHOWNING LIKE THAT???
Ethan says
When you first get into the “Calibrate” screen, you tap the Calibrate button to start the calibration. Then, you should see the “Calibration passed” or “Calibration failed” message at the bottom of the screen. Once you see that, it means the calibration is done. And, tapping the Calibrate button wont’ give you any response.

Proxi sensor not working on my new redmi 3s prime.
Ethan says
If the proximity sensor not working properly when you receive and end calls, you can backup your data and try to do a reset. If that doesn’t help, you might want to visit the nearest Xiaomi service center. Sorry that I don’t have any better suggestion.

i calibarate it shows in fail then what do plz
Ethan says
Can’t conclude much here.
Many in the MIUI forum complained that calibration tests showed fail after upgraded their phones to a certain version. In that case, their issues were pretty much software related.
I would suggest you do some research in the MIUI forum to see if those threads apply to your case.
You can also get to the nearest Xiaomi service center to ask them to check on your phone.
