Finally, after 3 years of using iPhone, I’ve now officially switched to Samsung.
“Oh no, another Apple user left for Android.” – Is this what‘s on your mind?
I bought my first android device, the Samsung Galaxy S3 from Maxis this morning. With this purchase, my iPhone 3Gs will be going for an early retirement – It suppose to wait for iPhone 5 to take over.
Frankly, I had no intention to get a S3. At the Maxis outlet, I was actually exploring the option of getting a Galaxy S2, because the price has dropped to a very reasonable level.
It seems like an affordable option to get a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich.
But Maxis no longer offering this model; instead, it offers RM999 + some monthly commitments for Galaxy S3 for their One Club members.
Being with Maxis for more than 10 years, I’m definitely one of them.
Currently, Maxis offers 2 exclusive plans for either iPhone 4s or Galaxy S3 for their One Club members
a. Phone (either iPhone 4s/Galaxy S3) price RM599 + monthly commitment of RM150 voice plan (VP) and RM48 1G data plan.
b. Phone (either iPhone 4s/Galaxy S3) price RM999 + monthly commitment of any voice plan and RM68 3G data plan.
Both options are required to sign a 24-month contract.
Since I don’t make many calls, I decided to go for option b and picked the cheapest VP of RM50 to press my monthly commitment to the lowest.
If you’re itching for the same capture, below are few things you might find useful. Anyway, you’re going to know them too when you sign the Device Purchase & Data Awareness Checklist on your purchase.
- The repair and maintenance (RMA) for Samsung phones are to refer to Samsung service centers even though you buy it from Maxis.
- The colour of the device is not changeable after purchase.
- After you’ve got your phone, go to Samsung outlet to register your warranty. No, you CAN’T do it yourself online. (I wasn’t told about this. I found out when I got the screen protector from the outlet)
- The device warranty is valid ONLY in Malaysia.
If you’re not happy with what are listed above, you can always get it from the Samsung outlet. But I was told you can only do pre-order at moment.
If you’re still thinking if this is what you want, I hope the following images can help you to at least know more about its physical design.
Note: I only pay RM80 for this cover. Even that, I think the covers nowadays are over priced.

Well, you can definitely call Maxis for support. After I’ve gotten my phone, I did do a complete reset to factory default, and I don’t remember I need to do any configuration, except I chose Maxis3G on the init screen initial setting screens.
In order to browse Internet using mobile network, do make sure Settings > More Settings > Mobile networks > Use packet data checkbox is checked.
